Here, the client asked that Smuts for Cinemas rip out the innards of his old room and create a new room that would be better isolated from the outside. And so, an entirely new home cinema set up was designed, that is now decoupled from the rest of the house, using 6 mm rubber sandwiched between two 9 mm MDF sheets.

 

The new ceiling was suspended with a steel frame capable of handling the considerable weight: each board weighs in at 85 kg!

These boards are for the side walls. Same composition as the ceiling boards, but they can flex.

 

The flex boards are now installed. Next are the acoustics and decor skin…

 

Then comes installation of the system.

 

And then last, but certainly not least – the completion of the décor!
