June 2024

I’m not even going to mention builders. Or the fact that I missed May. It’s just been stupid busy. Spending time in front of an R3M sound system has been the highlight – and yes, of course it sounded bloody marvelous. Shooting the breeze with it’s owner was also refreshing – and technology, no matter which way we slice it keeps on relentlessly marching on.

Ignoring the bleats from my valued and hapless editor however has been tempered with my miserable excuse that I have been otherwise busy. Time on the road and some of it in amazing vehicles reminded me of the sheer joy of rediscovery of music one had forgotten about. Tidal’s algorithm I make no excuses for because it just gets me and when we are blasting down memory lane on the open road there is a joy there that cannot be matched with other less ethereal body experiences.

In discussions the subject of value for money has come up more than once as it always does. Is there a significantly different degree of value add from an R3M system from an R300k system from an R30k system? It is of course the age old debate and it comes down to personal choice. There is nothing wrong with listening to equipment as opposed to music – because ultimately at some point in time (which may be many, many hours) you are going to come to a conclusion within your own mind, even if subconsciously, that clicks into place and you either love it or hate it. That click is  positioned around a pricing point that you are either happy with, or unhappy with.

That’s the value add!

I am listening to Tim Cohen’s music podcast at the moment – and I am shamelessly using it as a source for listening material because trying to keep up with Haslop is simply impossible until I fully retire.

Lastly a shout out to Vivid Audio…

If you have to ask the price… But by all that is holy I want to hear these.
