LOCAL FOCUS: ANDRIES OBERHOLZER CONSULTING

My business specialises primarily in web development, but from this basis we have become more involved in digital marketing on social media platforms, systems development, as well as business consultation. I have been involved in the Information Technology sector for about 36 years, with web development a new thing back in 1998. We have done on-site IT-based consultation work for clients in Europe and East Africa and over the years have been involved in really interesting projects, one of them a hydrogeology groundwater project for a Norwegian company, where the scientific exploration was done in Laos, South-east Asia, in the Mekong River basin. We were responsible for getting the updated information available on the client’s website and worked at odd hours to get this done, given the time difference. THE CINEMA ARCHITECTS OPEN DAY

When I was contacted by Schalk Burger from Cinema Architects to find out if I would be interested in getting involved with the organisation of their open day as consultants, I did not hesitate one moment. It took me back to the 2005 to 2008 period where I was involved with the annual hifi shows at the Randburg Inn Hotel, the Indaba Hotel in Sandton, as well as many open days we had in different venues. Back then there was not really much of a business focus. We did what we did because we loved it. The hifi shows may not have generated thousands of visitors, but we had fun, met some good people, and made friends for life.

After that I lived and worked outside of the country for 14 years and my association with the hifi industry came to an end. Now back in the country permanently, I am picking up the pieces again. We have not even had the open day planned for 15 November 2025 yet, but we are already planning on going much bigger in 2026.

LP12 SUPPORT SOUTH AFRICA

The business also focuses on other areas. One of them is Linn Sondek LP12 Support. This was born because of a need I identified within one year after returning from my extended time working overseas. On my return, I slowly became involved in music again and found a LP12 in a great condition. I must add this first though: My son asked me when I was going to get a turntable again, and my response was a firm negative as I was done for the format, or so I thought. A week later I turned up at home with a LP12 in my hands. Getting a turntable again was never planned; it just happened. I could not be happier.

My immediate requirement was for someone to service the unit for me. While I still knew two or three trusted experts in this area, I realised that there are many others who would like to own a Sondek but have no one to assist them. Thus, Linn Sondek LP12 Support South Africa was born. The website exists purely as a repository of information about this turntable and puts interested buyers and sellers in contact with one another.

To date we have assisted many individuals across the country, from sourcing spares to servicing their units, to buying and selling units. This way I have met some great folk who contact me regularly with their own stories. Note that LP12 Support is not a business. We are not associated with Linn’s local distribution, we are not a reseller for their products, and they do not endorse us. We may occasionally take a small percentage when selling a turntable on behalf of someone else, but this depends on what we had to do and whether we had to purchase parts. Surprisingly, most LP12s get to us in a good condition and only need a bit of TLC to make them look beautiful again. You will be amazed at what a difference a bit of care can achieve.
